Cincy Hikes Shawnee State Forest
This heavily forested, unglaciated trail winds its way to the top of the foothills crossing several small rocky streams. Once up the slope there are some gorgeous vistas of the surrounding valleys of the Shawnee region.

Moore’s Run trailhead, Shawnee State Forest • Scioto County ¥ Trailhead right on scenic route US-52 roughly 1 hour 50 minutes east of Cincinnati just before the historical Shelby 100 Mile House & Gardens.
This heavily forested, unglaciated trail winds its way to the top of the foothills crossing several small rocky streams. Once up the slope there are some gorgeous vistas of the surrounding valleys of the Shawnee region. Eventually the trail comes to Forest Road 23 where a beautiful overlook views the ancient river valley with Kentucky’s rolling bluegrass hills line the horizon. This journey totals 6.5 miles up and back.
Near the trailhead is also the amazing early nineteenth century Mitchell-Morrison Cemetery up along the wooded ridge. ✳️ 🌄

Other notes including trail conditions or equipment recommended?: Please always remember to bring water and wear proper shoes to your hike. ** Weather permitting** This is a shared bridal trail but rarely is used by equestrians so please bring leashes for dogs for if or when a horse were to pass us. The trail is not damaged with pits or dips from horses.
*Note: Beginners Pace is 1+ mph, Intermediate is 2+ mph, Speedy 3+ mph, or Runners 4+ mph.
Where dogs are permitted they must be leashed and kept under the owners control.
