Cincinnati Hikes Bird Hike

Have you ever been hiking and wondered “What’s that bird?” Here’s your chance to start learning the birds you may see and hear locally. No experience is required, the only thing needed is an interest in birds. Please be aware that bird walks are different than hikes. We will walk slowly, looking and listening, with frequent stops as we attempt to get all eyes on the birds. Our goal is not to get to a destination, but to enjoy the journey.   Your guide will be Kathi Hutton, a resident of the Cincinnati area for 35 years. Kathi started birding when she identified her first White-crowned Sparrow in her backyard in 1994. She currently has a Life List of 430 species in North America, 325 in Ohio, and over 500 species worldwide.   This month we will explore Miami-Whitewater Park, following the Shaker Trace Wetlands “birders’ trail.” Our target birds will be native sparrows, as well as other resident and migratory species. This is level walking on grassy and paved paths.   We will meet at the Baughman Rd parking lot at 8:00am. I am anticipating about a 3 hour walk, depending on weather and the birds.  NOTE: There are no facilities in this part of the park, so make arrangements for a rest stop before you arrive.   Please dress appropriately for the weather, including sturdy shoes. This walk will be canceled for heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

Where dogs are permitted they must be leashed and kept under the owners control.
