Let's explore the West Side of Mt Airy! I plan to hike the Explorer's Loop Trail and add on Montana Ridge..about 4 miles in all. Trails are not as well used or maintained as the main side of the park. Lots of areas to explore, pretty ridges!

Let's explore the West Side of Mt Airy! I plan to hike the Explorer's Loop Trail and add on Montana Ridge..about 4 miles in all. Trails are not as well used or maintained as the main side of the park. Lots of areas to explore, pretty ridges! AllTrails rates it moderate but it can be challenging. Many steep hills... some over creek beds, and exposed roots. Since it will be a loop, there are not good bail out options with this hike. Depending on trail conditions, we will be hiking around 4.5mph.
