About the event

Cincinnati Hikes Bird Hike

Have you ever been hiking and wondered “What’s that bird?” Here’s your chance to start learning the birds you may see and hear locally. No experience is required, the only thing needed is an interest in birds.  Please be aware that bird walks are different than hikes. We will walk slowly, looking and listening, with frequent stops as we attempt to get all eyes on the birds. Our goal is not to get to a destination, but to enjoy the journey.   Your guide will be Kathi Hutton, a resident of the Cincinnati area for 35 years. Kathi started birding when she identified her first White-crowned Sparrow in her backyard in 1994. She currently has a Life List of 431  species in North America, 325 in Ohio, and over 500 species worldwide.   VOA Park consists mostly of open fields, and in the summer is good for grassland birds like Dickcissel and Bobolinks. In winter, we can expect raptors, sparrows, and some ducks on the lake. Grassy (possibly muddy) paths, paved walking trail along the lake. There is a small wetlands area that could prove interesting, if we are lucky.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, including sturdy shoes. This walk will be canceled for heavy rain, thunder, and lightning, ice or freezing rain.
